چکیده

Nonuniform electrodeposition of lithium during charging processes is the key issue hindering development rechargeable Li metal batteries. This deposition process largely controlled by solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) on surface and design artificial SEIs an essential pathway to regulate Li. In this work, electro-chemo-mechanical model built implemented in a phase-field modelling understand correlation between physical properties The results show that improving ionic conductivity SEI above critical level can mitigate stress concentration preferred addition, mechanical strength found also non-uniform influence electrochemical kinetics, with Young's modulus around 4.0 GPa being threshold value for even By comparison experimental it clear most important direction future work improve without compromising strength. findings methodology presented here not only provide detailed guidelines Li-metal anodes but pave way explore strategies regulating other anodes.

Artificial solid electrolyte interphase for aqueous lithium energy storage systems

Aqueous lithium energy storage systems address environmental sustainability and safety issues. However, significant capacity fading after repeated cycles of charge-discharge and during float charge limit their practical application compared to their nonaqueous counterparts. We introduce an artificial solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) to the aqueous systems and report the use of graphene films ...

Electrolyte and Solid-Electrolyte Interphase Layer in Lithium-Ion Batteries

The supply and the management of the energy are particularly at the centre of our daily concerns and represent a socio-economic priority. Indeed, while cars use fossil fuel as the main source of energy for over a century, the depletion of the oil reserves and the necessity to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions, stimulate the development of electric vehicles. Therefore, one of the main challeng...

Ab initio molecular dynamics simulations of the initial stages of solid-electrolyte interphase formation on lithium ion battery graphitic anodes.

The decomposition of ethylene carbonate (EC) during the initial growth of solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) films at the solvent-graphitic anode interface is critical to lithium ion battery operations. Ab initio molecular dynamics simulations of explicit liquid EC/graphite interfaces are conducted to study these electrochemical reactions. We show that carbon edge terminations are crucial at th...

Stability of Electrodeposition at Solid-Solid Interfaces and Implications for Metal Anodes.

We generalize the conditions for stable electrodeposition at isotropic solid-solid interfaces using a kinetic model which incorporates the effects of stresses and surface tension at the interface. We develop a stability diagram that shows two regimes of stability: a previously known pressure-driven mechanism and a new density-driven stability mechanism that is governed by the relative density o...

A Review of Solid Electrolyte Interphases on Lithium Metal Anode

Lithium metal batteries (LMBs) are among the most promising candidates of high-energy-density devices for advanced energy storage. However, the growth of dendrites greatly hinders the practical applications of LMBs in portable electronics and electric vehicles. Constructing stable and efficient solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) is among the most effective strategies to inhibit the dendrite gro...
